HOUSTON (November 20, 2001) - The Money Management International Financial Education Foundation (the Foundation) announced today that it has funded a grant that will provide schools within the Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) with the resources they need to support their "Adopt an Angel" program. This program gives teachers an additional source of financial support to purchase materials needed to further the goals of the program.
The Quail Valley Middle School Raider Pride Success Program, an incentive program rewarding students demonstrating academic and citizenship achievements, was adopted through this program by the Foundation. "Money Management International believes in community outreach and teaching students the basics of money management," stated Ivan Hand, President and CEO.
Students at Quail Valley Middle School will be rewarded for their achievements by receiving Success Bucks. These bucks can be accumulated and used by students to purchase a wide variety of prizes from the Raider Pride Success Store. In seeking grants for adoption, Ivan Hand asked the FBISD specifically for grants that dealt with banking and/or money management.
The Foundation operates to educate the general public on sound personal financial skills and money management principles by developing, delivering, and supporting programs that teach those skills and principles. "We feel that the Raider Pride Success Program fits the Foundation’s mission by teaching students proper money management," added Hand. "Learning how to save money in an effort to buy a bigger reward is a lesson that a lot of these students haven’t learned; but will through this innovative program."
In addition to supporting the Raider Pride Success Program, the Foundation has also adopted the Ridgemont Elementary Angel Grant. This project, "Kids Money Club," is designed to teach students the fundamentals of saving and investing for their educational future.
