HOUSTON (November 11, 2002) - Today, Money Management International (MMI) announced that Dr. William F. Staats, the Louisiana Bankers Association Chair Emeritus of Banking and Professor Emeritus, Department of Finance, at Louisiana State University, has accepted a position on the Money Management International Financial Education Foundation’s Board of Directors. Dr. Staats’ expertise in banking, finance and promotion of personal financial education makes him an excellent addition to the Foundation’s Board.
The Money Management International Financial Education Foundation (Foundation) was founded in August of 2001 to support consumer financial education. The Foundation helps educate the general public on sound personal financial skills and money management principles by developing, delivering, and supporting educational programs and materials.
Dr. Staats has spent years educating the public by publishing more than fifty-five articles on banking and finance, and writing six books. He is co-author of How Chuck Taylor Got What He Wanted (And How You Can, Too!), now in its third edition, which is designed to teach the financial facts of life to young adults.
Before joining the faculty at LSU, Dr. Staats was Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He has been a member of the faculty at Rice University and at the University of Texas, where he received his doctorate degree.
In addition to his appointment on the Foundation, Dr. Staats has served as Director of the Bankers School for Supervisory Training, as Director of the Louisiana Bankers Association School of Banking, and as a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Banking at LSU and the LSU Executive Program. He currently serves as Director of the Farm Credit Bank of Texas and as Chairman and Director of Seven Oaks Capital Corporation.
“We are honored to have Dr. Staats serve on the Board of Directors of the Money Management International Financial Education Foundation,” stated Ivan Hand, President and Chief Executive Officer of MMI. “As a leader in the promotion of personal financial education, Dr. Staats can provide valuable insight to the Foundation as to the best strategies and methods for accomplishing our mission.”
Money Management International, the nation’s largest non-profit, full service credit counseling agency, assists consumers by offering personalized counseling sessions and debt management programs.
