HOUSTON (November 11, 2002) - Today, Money Management International (MMI) announced that A. Hartie Spence, Chairman of the Board and President of Hancock Bank of Louisiana, has accepted a position on the Money Management International Financial Education Foundation’s Board of Directors. The Money Management International Financial Education Foundation (Foundation) was founded in August of 2001 to support consumer financial education. With a strong background in finance, education and community leadership, Mr. Spence will be an outstanding addition to the Foundation’s Board.
The Foundation helps educate the general public on sound personal financial skills and money management principles by developing, delivering, and supporting educational programs and materials. In the past, Mr. Spence has held teaching positions related to banking and credit at a number of institutions, including the Graduate School of Banking of the South, Louisiana Banking School of Supervisory Training, National Commercial Lending School (Credit Union Examiners), and the Louisiana Bankers Association School of Banking.
As a respected community leader, Mr. Spence is the Chairman of the Capital Area United Way, President of the Louisiana Bankers Association, Treasurer of the Louisiana Council for Economic Education, and a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University Foundation Board of Directors. He also serves on the executive committee of both the Istrouma Area Council of the Boy Scouts and the Committee 100. This year, he was honored to receive the Corporate Volunteer Council’s “2002 Volunteer CEO of the Year.”
